America’s Double Disasters

10/10/2024
Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida early this morning, with experts forecasting the aftermath could be especially devastating in the Sunshine State. Meanwhile, North Carolinians are still suffering after Hurricane Helene, whose destruction has made recovery efforts especially challenging. As Americans brace for the soon-needed emergency recovery efforts, some have raised questions about whether FEMA has the funds to help. North Carolina Congresswoman Virginia Foxx joins the Rundown to explain the demand for more recovery aid in North Carolina, how Congress ensured FEMA has all the funding they need, and her concerns of a compounding disaster in the U.S. following Hurricane Milton. A handful of states will decide the election this fall. Arizona is one of the most sought-after swing states, with 11 electoral votes up for grabs. Early voting started this week in the Grand Canyon State, and both running mates campaigned there on Wednesday. CEO and President of HighGround political consulting Chuck Caughlin joins to break down Arizona's political landscape, the importance of winning Maricopa County, and why immigration is the number one issue for voters in the state. 10/10/2024
Back to back hurricanes hitting the mainland of the United States has raised concerns, and arguments, over whether or not the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has enough relief funds to help those in desperate need. Millions are still trying to recover from Hurricane Helene, which laid a path of destruction from Florida to North Carolina, and now Floridians are facing a very dangerous Hurricane Milton expected to have record storm surge. This issue of disaster relief is an issue being used by both parties just weeks before the election. FOX’s John Saucier speaks with Chad Pergram, Senior Congressional Correspondent for FOX News Channel, who says there is a long list of natural disasters that have been politicized by both sides. Hurricanes Test FEMA, Our Elections

10/9/2024
With less than four weeks until the 2024 election, one that could be the closest presidential election in the nation's history, there are worries that voters in the Southeast impacted by Hurricane Helene may not be able to cast their ballots. In western North Carolina, polling places have been damaged and, in some cases, destroyed, which raises the question: Where will voters vote on Election Day? Executive Director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections Karen Brinson Bell joins the Rundown to discuss how North Carolina is planning to get all voters to the polls, how their state election laws prepared them for this type of situation, and what can be expected on election night in the state. Hurricane Milton is closing in on Florida less than two weeks after Helene devastated much of the state. While President Joe Biden prepares its federal response for the coming storm, the administration faces criticism over its response to Helene. Brock Long, the former Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, joins the Rundown to weigh in on FEMA's response to Helene and whether the agency is stretched too thin to handle the expected impact from Milton. Why The Presidential Polls Won’t Budge

10/8/2024
Four weeks remain until the presidential election, and while both Vice President Harris and former President Trump have been stumping in numerous states around the country, it does not seem to be making much difference in the polls. Both campaigns are looking to secure fractions of percentages in swing states in order to secure a win, and many experts predict the election could come down to thousands of votes in places like Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Managing Editor for Sabato's Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia Center for Politics Kyle Kondik joins the Rundown to discuss why the polls are not moving ahead of Election Day and what issues are factoring into Americans' voting decisions. Days after Hurricane Helene caused major damage across Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, another major storm is on the way. FOX Weather has upgraded Hurricane Milton to a Category 5 storm, whose path is heading up the coast of Florida. The threats of a fresh severe weather event are prompting mass evacuations in the Sunshine State as homes and businesses are still actively recovering from Hurricane Helene only weeks ago. Many Americans are under the impression that flood damage is covered under their homeowner's insurance; however, that is not the case. Mark Friedlander, director of corporate communications at the Insurance Information Institute, joins to share how people can make sure their home has the proper coverage in the wake of a national disaster. The October 7 Attacks, One Year Later

10/7/2024

Throughout the 12 months since the attacks, Israel has worked to root out Hamas terrorists in Gaza and has moved into Lebanon to neutralize the Iranian proxy group Hezbollah. Domestically, President Biden is receiving criticism over his administration's handling of Hurricane Helene aid, with thousands of Americans in the Southeast currently without power and resources. Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) joins the Rundown to reflect on the one-year mark since the Hamas attacks, his efforts to get Republican Senate candidates elected, and react to the Biden administration's response to Hurricane Helene. Extra: America's Rapidly Growing Reliance On Government Aid

10/7/2024
Americans, more than ever, are relying on government programs to get by, and a recent study shows how that reliance has spread to many more parts of the country over the decades. This past week, Wall Street Journal's editor and reporter Aaron Zitner joined host Chris Foster to delve into the study's findings and the significant political ramifications. He notes a striking trend: many counties that have grown more dependent on government safety nets tend to vote Republican and are pivotal in swing states that could swing the outcome of next month's election. Zitner discusses what economic, demographic, and policy changes led to this change. He also explains how former President Donald Trump was among the first Republicans to notice this trend and appeal to these voters. We often must cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear the full interview. Today on Fox News Rundown Extra, we will share our entire interview with the WSJ’s Aaron Aitner and allow you to hear even more about America’s growing reliance on government money and what it can mean for our country's future. 10/6/2024
Election Day is less than a month away, and the candidates are using the final days to make gains in key battleground states. Both former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are eager to win over voters in Pennsylvania, which has 19 electoral votes up for grabs. FOX News Contributor and former White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove breaks down each campaign's strategy and reacts to the vice-presidential debate. Between 1988 and 2012, Democrats relied on Wisconsin to swing their way in the Presidential Election. But in 2016, Donald Trump was narrowly able to win the state, securing him the path to the presidency. Although President Biden was able to win back Wisconsin in 2020, the state is poised to be a tossup yet again in November. 10/6/2024
The biggest prize among the seven states considered toss-ups this election is Pennsylvania. With its 19 electoral votes, whoever wins that state may be our next president. It also so happens to be where former President Trump went this weekend, holding a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Butler is also the same place where he was nearly killed by a would-be assassin’s bullet back in July. Earlier this week, FOX News Rundown host Dave Anthony talked with Daron Shaw, who's part of the FOX News polling team, about Pennsylvania and its importance for Trump and Vice President Harris. From Washington: Reflecting On One Year of the Israel-Hamas War

10/5/2024
This Monday marks one year since Hamas invaded Israel, killing over 1,000 people and taking over 240 innocent civilians hostage. Since last October the conflict has only escalated — and now, as tensions grow alarmingly high between Israel and Iran, the question of what direction this war moves in remains unsettlingly indefinite. FOX News Chief National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin weighs in on how conflict in the Middle East has changed throughout the year and what the U.S.'s response might be to further escalation. This week, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas warned that FEMA was running out of funds amidst the catastrophic destruction of Hurricane Helene. 10/5/2024

Legal Cases & Crises Threaten To Upend 2024 Race

10/4/2024
A federal judge on Wednesday unsealed a filing from special counsel Jack Smith’s election interference case against former President Trump . Democrats quickly seized on the provocative details as the former President and his allies decry this move as election interference. Meanwhile, the Biden-Harris administration juggles a crisis with an escalating conflict in the Middle East and fallout from Hurricane Helene. FOX News Sunday anchor Shannon Bream joins to discuss how the 2024 candidates’ are weathering these October surprises and previews key cases heading for the Supreme Court. The number of counties in the United States that rely on government assistance is increasing, and most of them vote Republican. In 1970, one in ten counties in the country relied primarily on social safety net programs; in the latest survey of the nation, that number has risen to over half of American counties. Reasons range from rapid inflation, the expansion of government social programs, and deindustrialization due to jobs moving overseas. Reporter and Editor for the Wall Street Journal Aaron Zitner joins to discuss how these counties went from being swing districts to majority red regions, how former President Trump capitalized on bringing these voters into his coalition, and why both candidates are so focused on winning over voters in these areas. Will The VP Debate “Move the Needle?"

10/2/2024
The CBS News Vice Presidential Debate featured many tense moments between Ohio Senator JD Vance and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. While the VP picks were peppered with questions on policies, the moderators quickly confronted Vance on his past statements about Haitian immigrants and childless women. However, Vance’s steady performance allowed him to question Vice President Harris’ record while scrutinizing Walz’s history of progressive politics that could unnerve moderates and independents in key swing states. FOX News Radio’s Josh Kraushaar joined the Rundown to discuss why Vance likely came out on top in this debate and what that could mean for 2024 voters come November. October 7th is a day that will live in infamy for Israel—the day that Hamas terrorists made a surprise assault on southern Israel, massacring Israeli citizens, committing various war crimes, and kidnapping over 200 hostages. Israel has been waging war on Hamas in Gaza ever since, but in recent weeks they have been fighting the Iranian-backed terror group Hezbollah. On Tuesday, Iran responded by launching the largest ballistic missile attack in history on the nation of Israel.
